Re-EnActors firing cannon, #2
Photo by Mike Henderson, Exec Dir, DI Park and Beach Board
"Thunder On The Gulf" an event at Historic Fort Gaines May, 1999.
Firing a 'field artillery' piece in the foreground-
'heavy artillery' cannon being loaded in the background.
On the heavy piece, note the team member "tamping" the load.
Front, right, is the team Captain, having just fired the
field artillery piece, with the firing lanyard, or his
trigger-line, in his right hand. The team member behind
the Captain, is holding a "tamper" and a "sponge."
After firing the field piece, the "sponge" is used to clean and
dipped into a bucket of water, to cool the piece so the next load
of black power will not ignite prematurely.
